I watch too much Asian dramas (Korean, Thai, Taiwan, Japanese, Chinese...you name it) but I love them - I'm fascinated by the culture differences as well as the languages, and the myths, legends, tales, etc. particularly draw me in. As do the pretty boys, of course. Mustn't overlook the visuals.

Your Name Upon My Soul

There are two kinds of people in this world: those who are born destined for another, and those who must simply find their way to their own happiness.

In my world, if you are one of the lucky ones destined for someone, that person’s name will appear somewhere upon your skin. No one person knows exactly when it will happen, or if it will happen at all. And sometimes, even if the name appears...sometimes you never find the person you’re supposed to be with.

I don’t think it matters. It is our nature to want to be loved. To give love. Never finding your soulmate doesn’t mean you have to be alone.

That’s what I tell myself every morning when I stare into the mirror, checking my unmarked skin to see if a name has appeared overnight. The name that means I have a soulmate, someone destined just for me. That's what I tell myself when disappointment and loneliness threaten to overwhelm me.

It doesn't matter. The right someone is out there. Looking for me.

When Magdelena brought Zero home for the first time, Jack was less than impressed. He was even less thrilled to learn he would be sharing his Witch with a feline, no matter how small and helpless looking. Zero was small; the kitten fit in the palm of Magdelena’s hand.

“You don’t expect me to be responsible for this, do you?” Jack asked the moment he’d shifted from his natural, canine form to his human form. He eyed the fuzzy creature, trying not to be won over by the curiosity he saw in the kitten’s bright green eyes.

“What do you need with another familiar, anyway?” he said. “Am I not enough for you?”

His Witch laid her hand on his shoulder and smiled up at him.

“I don’t need another familiar, but I had to take him. No one else would,” she said. “And having a little extra help, once he’s old enough, won’t be a bad thing. He can keep you company when I’m away.”

She took his hand and placed the kitten gently on it. “His name is Zero, because he was the least of the litter.”

Jack sighed and looked at Zero. The kitten looked back, wide-eyed with curiosity, the tip of his long tail twitching.

“You’re going to be nothing but trouble. I can tell,” Jack said, and scowled, but there was little heat behind it. He was already resigned to the kitten becoming a part of their lives. “Will he even be able to shift forms?” he asked.

Magdelena stroked a fingertip between Zero’s triangle-shape ears and shrugged. “I don’t know for certain. He should. He just needs to grow stronger.”

Jack shook his head, his scowl fading. He had to admit, Zero was cute, especially with his big eyes half-closed in pleasure as their Witch continued to stroke him between his ears. “Stronger, yes. And bigger. Much, much bigger.”

Their Witch laughed and agreed. “Why don’t you shift back and see how he takes your natural form? I will start making our supper.”

Been blessed three days running with decent enough weather to ride for a few hours. In the face of being stuck at home for the past 6+ months, it is definitely a sanity-saver.

That said, I'm sooooo ready for the warm weather to come back. 48° weather is a little chilly after an hour or so.

Happy MLK day. We've come a long way, but we've still got our work cut out for us.

Thanks to the fabulous Alexcat, I have finally managed to write my first fanfic in ages. Just a flash fic. Cross posted on AO3 and on the DW group Flash_fiction.

I should be writing. Why am I not writing? Writers love to write; we love to create stories and share them. So why do so many of us struggle with actually sitting down and doing the deed? Every successful writer I've ever heard talk about writing says the same thing: write. Write every day. Write even when you know it isn't perfect - write it anyway.

I'm guilty of getting easily distracted. I have 'squirrel' moments all day long, especially when it comes to writing. I have three stories going right now in various stages of completion. One is my novel I wrote two years ago that I've been going back through and editing. Two stories are for friends and I have a third on the back burner (just posted a bit about it yesterday). Other ideas abound in my head - a sequel to the novel I'm still editing, plus other original stories. In the interim, work, life, husband, friends, playtime, all of it drags me away from writing. I suppose that is fine - I don't do this professionally, after all, only as a hobby and entertainment for myself and (hopefully) a few others.

Someone needs to stand behind me with a stick and yell in my ear "FINISH THE DAMN STORY". Any volunteers?

Xu Wei is an assassin from the court of Emperor Wu. Trained as a lethal weapon from the age of 12, He has never missed a target. Now twenty three, four years past the age that most assassins' luck runs out, Xu Wei has been sent to end the life of General Lan Zhong, an insurrectionist and charismatic leader of forces that threaten the peace of the glorious Empire.

Will Xu Wei succeed, or has the beautiful and deadly assassin finally met a target he cannot kill?

What started off as an attempt to get back into writing FF has escalated. I went in intending to write a short story and I'm already 40 pages into it. The good news is, I have an ending. The bad news is, I'm not there yet - I'm about 3/4 the way through, however.

The question is, once I'm done, will anyone want to read it?

Sigh.
